In
1999, the Club put two eights and three fours on the water in
the Cardinals biggest event to date. As at the previous year’s
event, the day proved a huge success with every Cardinal going
home having won at least one race. The top four, including two
of the Club’s Great Britain oarsmen, beat Staines Boat Club to
take home the Senior 1 coxless trophy. The 1st
VIII
lost their final by a canvas to Eton Excelsoir while the Cardinals
2nd
VIII
(seating some of the Club’s less active oarsmen!) beat Kingston
Rowing Club in their Senior 3 event in a time of 1m36s, just 2
seconds slower than the 1st
VIII
and one
of the day’s fastest times.
Steve Tassell writes:
I think it's worth mentioning that the fours
race between Cardinals and Staines was the fastest race of the
day!
